The Clyde Public Library hosted an evening of musical talent performed by participants of The Songwriter's Playground".  The program was lead by singer/songwriters, John and Nancy Bryan.



Lyrical pieces were written be each participant including two group pieces and then professionally recorded.

CD's of the two group songs were presented to each musician as they were introduced to the audience.


Musical pieces were performed by the following:

Sage Brandt, Cheryl Bonnell, Amy Bullard, Olivia Bullard, Joe Cimineri, John Cordon, Bernie Prosser, William Pulver, Brittni Weaver, Patty Youngman, Barb Mittak and Megan Mittak.

This workshop was made possible by funds received from Finger Lakes Community Arts, Robert G. Boehmler Foundation and the Clyde-Savannah Public Library.

Members of Clyde C-Span

On Saturday, April 28, several members of Clyde SPAN (connecting people with possibilities) participated in the statewide “Canal Clean Sweep” program. Thanks to C-SPAN, the trails in Clyde, NY are a bit cleaner, brighter, and less cluttered with litter than they were a week ago.

C-SPAN members worked in two crews. One crew walked the old West Shore railroad trail from Brown”s Crossing in Lock Pit to Lauraville Landing Park. Another crew walked from Reed Road to Lauraville Landing Park. Many huge bags of garbage and refuse were accumulated. “Picked up items” included bike rims and tires, chair parts, canvas covers, many bottles and cans, pieces of various colored glass, fast food containers, door mats, carpets, and even railroad spikes and bolts.

The public is invited to join two local organizations in paddling the Clyde River / Erie Canal on 15 October 2011 at 10 a.m. All levels of paddlers, canoes, and kayaks are welcome. The duration of the trip will be approximately 3 hours.

The Erie Canal is beautiful both ways from Clyde, as is the Clyde River, which is accessible part way up the Canal. No matter which way we head this will be a fairly easy paddle with little to no current and the only waves would be from a powerboat. The one safety caution advised is to dress for the possibility of getting wet in this cool fall weather. Please bring a dry change of clothes in your boat as well.

This paddling event is a joint venture with Trail Works of Wayne County and the Genesee Valley Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club. Your Trip leaders will be Mark DeCracker, Charlie Helman, and Peg Warrick.

Everyone is invited to a special mural dedication on Wednesday evening, 21 June 2011, at 6:00 p.m. at the Clyde Library. What makes this mural so special is that it was painted by Clyde Savannah High School students with the guidance of student teacher James Zeger. Come and support your local budding artists and enjoy this beautiful mural up close.

This mural was painted by art students from Clyde-Savannah high school with the guidance of James Zeger, student art teacher, and Sue Lane, high school art teacher. The mural depicts the Clyde trolley station from the early 1900s. An old historic postcard from the Clyde Historical Society's collection was used as the main reference for the background. The figures were researched by the students for accurate clothing styles. Art students include: Morgan Carroll, Kim Gill, Sarah Bastedo, Alan Wisniewski, Brianna Smith, Mitchell Checho, Kendra Garrett, Noah Dutcher.

The Clyde Grange, located at 16 E. Genesee St, Clyde, will be hosting an Antique Extravaganza. This will give those who are doing their spring cleaning to pause a moment to think about an item that may have been considered of no value. Possibly you may be thinking of throwing it in the trash or recycle bin. Bring that item or items to the Grange on Saturday May 14th where we will have several appraisers who will appraise them. You may be surprised at their value. Appraisers Mr. Bellizzi and Mr. Davis have had years of experience in this field.

The following is available for just $5.00 with children five and under free. Pancakes, French Toast, sauage, apple sauce, eggs your way, potatoes, juice, coffee, tea and milk. Dear Editor,

I am writing to express the humbleness and pride that I have experienced, again, this holiday season. I work for Lockheed Martin in Syracuse, a global security company that develops and manufactures products for the U.S. armed forces and our allies. We have a year-round effort support called Adopt-A-Platoon and my department supports the Headquarters Regional South Command, Information & Support (I&S), G1 Section out of Fort Drum in Watertown that is currently stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Holiday Cards to Soldiers

Last year when we started our holiday campaign for our platoon, I received an email from the platoon’s leader, at that time, expressing to me that many of his platoon members were missing their families and children. It was then I approached Principal Tom Castellano at Clyde Elementary, where I attended, and asked if the teachers and students there would like to participate in our annual holiday drive. They participated all right. The students provided nearly 100 letters, cards, and pictures and reading them brought tears to our eyes! When I read over some of these and packed the boxes that we shipped, I began to think that how grateful we all should be. Children often say the things in the simplest way to make us see the light.

Bring your kids to the Clyde Grange for a fun "Breakfast with Santa". Breakfast will begin at 8:00am and go until 11:00 on Dec. 4th. It is free for those age 5 and under, $3.00 for those 6 through 10 years of age and all others $5.00. There is a free photo with Santa for those having breakfast and $3.00 for those choosing not to eat. Small group photos available.

On Sunday, October 17, 2010 the Town of Galen Republican Committee will be hosting a rally for the Republican candidate for the United States Congress, Anne Marie Buerkle. The rally will begin at 5pm for Mrs. Buerkle. From 4pm to 5pm we will hold a meet and greet for local village candidates and other republican candidates for state and county offices that may want to come. The rally will be held at the Clyde Grange located on E. Genesee St (Route 31) in the village of Clyde.

Autumn is here and the Clyde Grange is again serving their Sunday buffet breakfasts beginning on 12 September 2010, from 8:00 am until noon.

We are located at 16 E. Genesee St. in the Village of Clyde. The menu includes french toast, eggs, pancakes, sausage, apple sauce, juice and coffee or tea. Milk and hot chocolate are also available. We will continue our "breakfasts" on the 2nd Sunday of each month.

Schooner Lois McClure

On Sunday, August 29th, if you drive over the Erie Canal in Clyde, you may be surprised to see a schooner docked at Lauraville Landing. This is the Schooner Lois McClure, a full-scale replica of an 1862-class canal sailing boat.

The Lois McClure was constructed by the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in 2004, and has been touring the waterways of Vermont, New York, and Quebec ever since.

This year, the Lois McClure will overnight in Clyde, NY. It will be open for tours on Sunday the 29th from 10am – 6pm. Tours are free, so be sure to bring your family down to check out the schooner.

You can learn more about the Lois Mclure on the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum website. You can also follow its journey by reading the ship’s logs.
