SUBMITTED by Jerry Ashley, Lyons Main Street Program Manager (22-June-2009)

The Village of Lyons has begun placing newly designed trash receptacles around the historic business district downtown to spiffy-up in time for Peppermint Days. The Lyons Main Street Program worked closely with the village to capture a new look on a budget resulting in twenty-five 55 gallon metal drum painted dark enamel green with a vinyl sticker featuring a red oval, peppermint sprig, and the words "Keep Lyons Clean". A bright red swinging door cap tops off the new design.

Many volunteer and village DPW hours have gone into recent clean-up campaigns. Help honor that commitment to volunteer spirit by using the new receptacles. Politely urge others to use them and stop to pick up garbage when you see it on our streets.

Smokers - smoke if you must however do the right thing and dispose of your cigarette/cigar butts responsibly. It's as easy as 1-2-3!...1) - twist and knock the cherry off of your cigarette/cigar; 2) - step on it to make sure it is out; and 3) - throw the butt in a new Lyons trash receptacle.
