SUBMITTED by Jean Mackay, Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor (24-Nov-2009)

WATERFORD, NY- The public is invited to pick up a free 2010 Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor calendar starting December 1, 2009 at selected libraries and visitor centers throughout the National Heritage Corridor. Each month features one of twelve winning images from this year’s Erie Canalway photo contest that capture the beauty, history, people, or character of New York’s canals and canal communities. 8,500 calendars have been distributed and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor is one of 49 National Heritage Areas charged with interpreting, preserving, and celebrating our nation’s heritage for the benefit of today’s residents and visitors and future generations. The Corridor stretches 524 miles across the full expanse of upstate New York, from Buffalo to Albany and north along the Champlain Canal to Whitehall, and encompasses 234 diverse communities connected by a waterway that changed not just the landscape of our state, but also our nation and its history.
