Hearts and Paws Come Together Memorial Day Weekend

Long Acre Farms Hosts “Paws on the Farm” Pet Adoption Event

Long Acre Farms has eagerly accepted the challenge of bringing families together for over fifteen years by providing a fun and educational environment for all ages. Hundreds have flocked to the farm for good, old-fashioned fun, and on 29 May 2010 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., the farm will reach beyond the family border and open its doors to four legged companions.

During the first “Paws on the Farm” adoption event local adoption agencies, Wayne County Humane Society, Big Dogs Big Hearts, and Rudy’s Rescue, will bring a few of their available pets to meet and interact with families. Guests can learn about each of the organizations and sign-up to volunteer or make a donation to their favorite.

“Our goal is to make the event educational and highlight the many reasons to adopt from or give your time to a rescue organization,” explains Event Organizer, Mary Beth Mahaney. “Plus, it will be a fun outing where people can bring their dogs and the whole family.”

But if adoption isn’t on the agenda, there will be a variety of other pet and owner-friendly activities to enjoy. If the family pet is looking a little drab, local pet spa The Grey Cottage will hold a grooming lesson at 12:15p.m. and answer questions on how to spruce up your pets for the summer weather. For dogs that need a guiding hand toward good behavior, Positive K-9 at Creekside Resort will host a training demonstration at 1:00 p.m. And to solve any lingering pet predicaments, Macedon Veterinary Care will answer questions at 2:00 p.m. during their Vet Q & A session.

During the day, a walking trail will be open for families to take their pet on a stroll around the farm. They can also personalize a Frisbee or a bandana for their furry family member, play in the Back 40, or pan for gemstones.

After a long day of play pups can be rewarded with gourmet treats and ice cream from A Barker’s Dozen. For owners and families, pulled pork dinners including salt potatoes, cornbread and coleslaw will be available beginning at 12 p.m. If guests choose to pre-order their dinners, a portion of the funds will be donated towards the rescue organizations.

To give back to the rescues, pet enthusiasts can also view a copy of the rescue organizations’ wish lists on www.longacrefarms.com. If they donate an item, they will receive a buy one get one free Barnbuster coupon for the Amazing Maize Maze and Back 40. For more information, visit the website or call the farm directly at 315-986-4202.
