The Peppermint Days Committee, in conjunction with the Canal View Senior Residence, announces the Peppermint Prince and Princess Pageant, Saturday, May 22nd at 2 pm. This year’s pageant will be held in the lobby of the Canal View Senior Residence with residents Helen Prouty, Linda Gulla, Gloria Tunnicliff, Phyliss Bassett and Pat Fisher judging the entrants. Canal View is a 36-unit affordable apartment complex located at 100 Canal View in Lyons and is available to seniors 55 and older who meet income and occupancy requirements. The Canal View ladies will be judging the contestants on “dress-up” (Sunday Best outfit) and their answer to a simple question. There are four categories – Peppermint Prince and Princess (5-8 years) and Junior Prince and Princess (3-5 years). Entry forms are available either from the Lyons Main Street Program office (70 William Street) or via download from www.lyonsmainstreetprogram.org and must be submitted no later than May 21st.
Not to be left out, children under the age of 3 may be entered in this year’s Peppermint Baby through a photograph contest to be held June 1st through June 26th at Dobbins Drugs (52 William Street). 5”X 7” photos (non-returnable) may be submitted to the Lyons Main Street Office no later than Wednesday, May 26th and the winner will be determined by the most votes. Votes are purchased 3 for a dollar or 20 for five dollars with all proceeds going to the Peppermint Days Committee. All entrants for the Prince and Princess and Peppermint Baby contests must be a resident of the Village or Town of Lyons and will be featured in the Peppermint Days Kiddy Parade and the 20th Anniversary Peppermint Days Grand Parade.
