SUBMITTED by Irene Unterborn, Village of Palmyra Celebrations Committee (2-Jun-2010)

Palmyra, New York is the place to be on Friday June 18th, and Saturday June 19, 2010, for a Free Movie and Shopping Bargains Galore!

At dusk, on Friday night June 18th, The Village of Palmyra Celebrations Committee is hosting its annual Spring Movie in the Park, “Planet 51” (Animated, PG 2009), in which American astronaut Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker lands on Planet 51 thinking he's the first person to step foot on it. To his surprise, he finds that this planet is inhabited by little green people who are happily living in a white picket fence world, and whose only fear is that it will be overrun by alien invaders...like Chuck!

The movie is provided free of charge, courtesy of the Village of Palmyra. Some seating will be available, but moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs. Children ages 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Refreshments and popcorn will be available for purchase in the Park. In case of rain, the movie will move indoors to the Palmyra Park and Club Rooms next to the park, beginning at 7:30pm. To gear up for Pirate Weekend in August, your official engraved Palmyra Pirates of the Erie Canal Kazoos will be available to purchase for just $2.00 each!

On Saturday June 19th, in addition to deals for bargain-hungry shoppers, just plain hungry shoppers can take advantage of fresh local produce available at the Palmyra Farmer’s Market, which now usually takes place weekly in the Village Park on Tuesday evenings from 3-7 PM.

The Community Garage Sales have proved to be a great success, with hundreds of bargain-hunting shoppers acquiring goods ranging from antiques to baby clothes, from dozens of happy sellers. Once again, the entire Palmyra community will have the opportunity to set up their own booths and peddle their own garage-sale-type wares or crafts in the Village Park…or at their house!

The Palmyra Community Garage Sale in the Village Park is open to all (families, dealers, etc) and will be conducted under the following terms and conditions:
  • The sale takes place on Saturday, June 19th from 8:00am to 1:00pm (Rain or Shine).
  • A limited number of spaces, approximately 10 feet wide by 20 to 30 feet deep will be marked around the parking lot and entrance to the parking lot towards the rear of the Village Park.
  • Sale participants must bring their own tables, chairs, tarps, coverings, pricing materials, petty cash and any other sale materials they might need.
  • Each space in the park costs $5, payable to the Palmyra Celebrations Committee for marketing and other upcoming event costs. To pre-register, please call Irene Unterborn (597-0011) or call or visit the Palmyra Village Hall at 144 East Main Street (597-4849) and the Town Hall at 1180 Canandaigua Rd (597-5521).
Any spaces remaining unregistered prior to the sale date will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning at 7:00AM on the day of the sale.
