SUBMITTED by Mary Beth Mahaney, Long Acre Farms (11-Jun-2010)

When the heat hits Rochester and locals begin to dust off their shorts and t-shirts, it can only mean one thing – summer vacation is here, and Long Acre Farms is celebrating. On Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26, the farm will welcome the long awaited summer months during the School’s Out! Celebration from 11a.m. until 4 p.m.

For an $8 admission fee, families can take on the 10 activities in the Back 40, hop on a special summer hayride and watch a wildlife show featuring World of Wildlife Education Encounters. Gemstone panning will also be available throughout the weekend.

WOWEE is an animal-friendly organization, committed to creating understanding through educational encounters about the natural world and its exotic animals. They will bring reptiles, birds, mammals, and even some endangered species from around the world for families and friends to learn about and meet. But these exotic critters won’t stay on the farm forever, so families should arrive by 1 p.m. to watch the show.

“Long Acre Farms is all about learning in a fun setting,” explains Event Organizer, Mary Beth Mahaney. “We hope families and friends will enjoy their day on the farm and the special event, but also walk away knowing a little bit more about some endangered species and what they can do to help.”

After a hard day’s work of fun on the farm, families can stop over to the grill and enjoy hamburgers and hotdogs, or get ice cream from the Sweet Cone Shop. For a unique treat, they can enjoy the new, giant sandbox sundae – a Long Acre Farms sand pail filled to the brim with ice cream and toppings.

And it wouldn’t be a celebration without summer specials. Parents can pre-purchase tickets for the fall for a special savings, or they can head to the Market for lowered prices on baked goods, salsas, and more.

Rain or shine, Long Acre Farms will be having fun all weekend. Come join us and get wild for the summer. For more information, visit www.longacrefarms.com, or call directly at 315-986-4202.
