Take a break from Newarkfest this weekend and head for the Newark-Arcadia Museum on High St.
The 12th Annual Newark-Arcadia Museum Open House takes place this weekend, June 11-13 (Fri. 4-8 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m. - 8 p.m., Sun. 12-3 p.m.)!! Special events include the grand opening of the new exhibit, "Make a Date With Nobility Plate" - Empire Crafts Corp.: A Newark Success Story! The special exhibit centers around the year 1953 in Newark. Photo- Nancy Bloomer, daughter of the late T. Spencer Knight, President of Empire Crafts, views the exhibit.

On Saturday only, the Newark Garden Club will hold their annual Plant & Bake Sale out on the lawn, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Also, there will be 3-4 antique dealers on the lawn, from 10-4. Hot dogs and drinks will be available. A small Civil War encampment will be located on the side lawn. Wayne County Historical Society will be selling raffle tickets for their Super Summer Sweepstakes. Photo- To top it off, a 1953 Willys Sedan will be at the museum, courtesy of Wayne Smith.

The N-AHS is conducting a raffle, with the prize being a 76-piece service for eight set of Nobility Silver, in the lovely "Royal Rose" pattern. Tickets are $5 each (or 5/$20) Drawing is Dec. 9th.

    I recommend the "Make a Date With Nobility Plate" exhibit! I attended the May 2010 talk by collector Phillip Durham at the Newark-Arcadia Museum and was amazed not only by how vast his collection of Newark-based products was, but also how the success story & direction of Nobility Plate was really a gauge of Newark's and America's history at that time.
