Wayne County Council for the Arts Presents

“RAND DARROW- SLAVIC SONG PAINTINGS”

Rand Darrow is a graduate of SUNY Oswego and Nazareth College of Rochester. He was an art teacher at Manchester-Shortsville Central for thirty years. He worked together with local historian and fellow physical education teacher, Tim Munn, to illustrate two books: “From Backyards to Big Leagues” and “Legends, Landmarks, Locals of Ontario County”.

Many of his paintings of local history are exhibited at the Depot Restaurant in Shortsville. He has exhibited at Ontario County Museum in Canandaigua (currently exhibiting local baseball history until spring of 2011), All things Art, Prouty Chew, Geneva, Phelps Historical museum, Phelps Art Center, and High Falls Rochester.

He has three exhibits Local Railroad and Baseball History, Local Civil War History and Slavic Mythology (a visual musical). Slavic Mythology is an experiment with music and art. How do you show a musical without performing it. He composed the music, wrote four Slavic myths and the lyrics to the songs, painted each song, sculpted the characters, made dioramas and posters of each myth, and designed costumes.

In the Members’ Gallery, Sharon Weimer’s “Oil Painting Class for Adults” will exhibit their canvases during the month of August.

Both exhibits will run from August 6th through August 28th, 2010. The public is invited to an opening reception to be held on Friday, August 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Wayne Art Gallery hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Visit this exciting exhibit and stop by our great Gallery Gift Store. Wayne County Council for the Arts is located at 108 W.
