Wayne County Council For The Arts is located at 108 West Miller Street in beautiful Downtown Newark.
Intermediate Oil Painting for Adults (5 week series)
This is an ongoing class that concentrates on expanding your knowledge of painting with oils. Working from your own photograph, and with the guidance of the instructor, you will create an oil painting of a subject of your choice.
Thursdays, October 7 – November 18, 1:00 – 3:00 in the gallery painting studio

Decorative Painting (2 day workshop)
Ages 16 and up NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED!
Using patterns to lay down the design, you will create a beautiful wall hanging (sample can be seen on display at the WA Gallery and online) using acrylic paints.

Beginning Oil Painting for Adults - Landscapes (5 week series)
Learn the basics of oil painting landscapes starting from scratch. You will learn how to sketch in your ideas and build up the layers from there.

Foundation Drawing for Adults (5 week class series)
Develop your drawing skills with an intro to techniques and materials through direct observation. Principles of shape, line, and shading will be presented and applied in this studio class. Students are required to bring drawing pencils and an 11 x 14 or larger sketchbook.

Basic Seed Beading Peyote Stitch (off loom) (One day workshop)
Ages 16 years and up NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!
If you can thread a needle, you can create a beautiful two-toned bangle-type bracelet with the guidance of our resident expert (sample is on display at the WA Gallery and online). Kits will be provided for $12.

Learn how to professionally cut mats, choose the correct frame, and prepare your masterpiece for hanging. There will be demonstrations and some hands on learning.

How to Draw with Pastels (One day workshop)
Extend your drawing skills with the use of pastels. Learn how to apply, blend, and transport this mysterious medium. You will learn basic and some advanced techniques by drawing from still-life set-ups. Lecture and demonstration will focus on techniques, use of light and its effect on color, types of pastels available, use of different papers to help create various effects, and how to fix and transport your finished drawings.

Colored Pencil Drawing for Adults (One day workshop)
Yes, colored pencils really can be used to create beautiful art! This workshop will cover many aspects of this vibrant medium. You will learn how to create effects ranging from soft and transparent to dense and vibrant. Lecture and demonstration will focus on techniques, use of light and its effect on color, types of colored pencils available, and use of different papers to help create various effects.
