  1. Anonymous Said,

Charging $10 for interested taxpayers seem rather unfair or is the purpose is keep it to you elected officials. You guys forget you represent us and we should be able to be part of the process. Funny thing when your running for election it is all about us taxpayers but once elected our opionion is less important. Typical politicians that is why incumbents should be voted out after a couple of terms of office.

So, what is the $10 for?

I don't know, but I would think that the $10 goes to the facility where the meeting is hosted, incidental costs, advertising, and such. Usually, the members have already paid for these things with their member dues and it would be unfair to give this away to non-members. Otherwise, where would the benefit be to being a member? However, if you wish to view every meeting being hosted for the benefit of government types as bad, you will see any cost as unfair and unjust. Instead, you should be happy that people are being asked to pay their fair share for this meeting. If you are unhappy, then join Canal NY and then you can go for "free". Canal NY is not a governmental organization, why don't you go to their website and learn a bit about them?

I believe that when elected officials meet, the people who elect them should not have to pay to see how they are planning on spending taxpayer's money. You don't agree?

If this were being held in the city hall, certainly charging would be unreasonable. But from what I read in the article, this is being held in the Ohmann, which appears to be a private or Not for Profit. Typically these places charge for use, to cover expenses, such as lights and heat, and insurance. Unless they are giving away the hall, it is reasonable for Canal NY, another NFP, to charge to recoup its costs of holding this valuable meeting. And I don't know many planners who are elected.
Perhaps this information could be handed out by web, but there is a value to meeting and asking questions face to face. Perhaps you should attend and report back to Wayne Country Life. If you need $10, I will give it to you.
