2009 Red & White Couple
Looking for a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your special someone? How about dining on great food and pulling your sweetheart close for a slow dance or two? The Lyons Main Street Program has announced the date of the second annual Valentine dinner-dance fundraiser “A Red and White Affair” as Saturday evening, February 12th at Studebaker’s Grille in Lyons. This year’s dinner-dance will again feature DJ Stephanie Knarr of Magick Entertainment who kept the crowd on the dance floor last year with non-stop tunes. Local professional photographer, Denise Eaton, will be on hand to provide keepsake portraits of celebrating couples at a Valentine themed set and backdrop. There will be a contest for “The Best Red and White Couple” that encourages guests to wear cocktail attire in red and/or white with a black option (i.e. a black dress or suit with red or white accessories). Dan and Sue LaGasse were last year’s Red and White Couple, both decked out in red! Other planned activities include a silent auction of themed baskets as well as a 50/50 drawing and door prizes.

The evening will begin with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6:30 pm and a buffet dinner will follow at 8 pm. Dancing will begin at 9:15 with an intermission to award prizes. Event tickets are $50.00 per person (or $95.00 per couple) and include one free cocktail as well as a ticket for the 50/50 drawing. Tickets may be purchased from the Lyons Main Street Program office at 70 William Street, 315-871-4220 through Tuesday, February 8th. The Red and White Affair was established last year as a fund-raiser for the Lyons Main Street Program, a National Trust for Historic Preservation designated not-for-profit organization dedicated to the improvement and promotion of local business and tourism. The LMSP has sponsored many village spruce-ups and clean-ups and has rallied volunteers to participate with various festivals and events throughout Lyons aimed at bringing residents of neighboring communities to Lyons while promoting community pride and local volunteerism. Small business seminars have been offered by the program to provide information to local businesses and to assist in promoting those businesses locally and regionally. The LMSP works towards partnerships with local businesses and organizations, the schools and religious community for both cross-promotion and to tap into a broader volunteer base. The Red and White Affair fundraiser is being held in conjunction with the Lyons Main Street Program sponsorship drive. The members of The Red and White Affair committee are Sharon Lubitow, Andrea Evangelist, and Stephanie Knarr and the committee is chaired by Karen Kehoe. If you are unable to attend the Red and White Affair but would like to support the program’s continued efforts through a monetary donation, you may do so by forwarding your check to the above listed address.
