ROCHESTER (JAN 28 11) – The Newark track and field teams ended their regular indoor season with a very satisfying winter-season meet at RIT on Friday night.
“We had quite a meet,” said coach Joe Contario. “Early in the meet some of the kids had pretty good performances and it seemed to snowball. Out of 25 performances, 14 athletes set personal or seasonal bests. This is great going into the Sectionals.”
Senior Derrick White again demonstrated his ability to attain velocity and glide, winning the 300-meter dash (36.97). “He stayed undefeated in the event,” said Contario, “with his second-best time of the year. Fellow senior Kevin Zappia used a great finishing kick and improved his best time in the 1000 meters by almost seven seconds (2:52.31).”

Jeremy Hasset survived a bump-and-run 600-meter un, working a personal best of 1:27.13 and a third place. Greece Arcadia’s Jonmichael Knapp won the race (1:24.91)
The Newark girls were led by senior Caroline Gardner, who finished fourth in the triple jump (32-2).
Other Newark finishers: Jamie Colacino was sixth in the 55-meter dash (7:16); Antonio VanKoevering was fourth in the 300-meter dash (38.20); Emily Middlebrook and Emma Gibson had season-best times in the 1500 meters and finished ninth (5:44.95) and 10th (5:47.13); Alex Wysocki came in sixth in the 1600 meters (4:57.31), a personal best; Dalton Burns tossed the shot 41-3.5 to earn eighth place; Kendra Bush launched the shot 27-8.5 to grab fifth place.
