WHAM’s Don Alhart to Emcee Chamber Awards on April 28

The winners of the 2011 Newark Chamber of Commerce Community Awards have been chosen. Michael Muscolino, Chairman of the Awards Committee, stressed that the decisions were not easy, as there were several fine nominations.

Don Alhart, WHAM Channel 13 anchor, will be on hand to emcee the awards portion of the annual dinner, set for Thursday, April 28 at Burnham’s Canalside Restaurant at the Newark Quality Inn. Social Hour is at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. Tickets are$30 and available by contacting the Chamber office at 331-2705 or newarkchamber@rochester.rr.com

Peacework Farm, located on Welcher Road, Newark, has been named recipient of the Ron Colacino Community Spirit Award. Since 1998, the family scale has been providing weekly packets of fresh organic vegetables and herbs to families.

Reliant Community Credit Union located at the corner of Van Buren St., and North Main St. has selected as Newark Chamber Business of the Year. They are well known for their commitment to the community through activities such as Newark YEA Program, Ellie Island Project, United Way, St. Michael’s School, and encourage their people to participate on local boards.

Mrs. Regina Krolak of Grace Avenue was chosen to receive the Alex Eligh Service Award. Mrs. Krolak is a founding member of ARC and most noted for quietly organizing the Together in Christ Shared Christmas Dinner now in its 35th year.

This year’s Outstanding Youth Award goes to two deserving young people, Matt Plain and Eli Ebanks.

Eli Ebanks not only excels in all sports that he is involved in but finds time to volunteer in such programs as Food Distribution, Newark Varsity club’s gifts to the DeMay Living Center, and recently received the Hands of Christ Award.

Matt Plain has been recommended by The United Methodist Women, a young man who has overcome hardship to blossom into a community volunteer with NAVA, and his church. “

He has matured into a very kind, caring young man who wants to make something of his life.” said one of the many who wrote on his behalf.
