Local patron and Rob Kelley, Owner
Congratulations to Rob Kelley of Lyons who recently opened "Kelley's Barber Shop" on Canal Street in the Village of Lyons.  Mr. Kelley, who claimed that cutting hair was a hobby, decided to push his hobby into a career.  He received his education from Shear Ego and became licensed in 2010.  An open house in mid-April proved to be supportive as many local residents appeared for the opening.

Kelley, 26, claims that opening his shop was not difficult.  He says, "It took longer than I would have liked, but I had great people helping me."  Some of these people were from a collaborative partner program made up with representatives from Lyons Main Street Program, SCORE, Wayne County IDA, Lyons National Bank and the Village of Lyons.  The purpose of this program is to provide financial assistance and educational support to businesses located in the designated "Main Street" business district.

"SCORE was great to work with.", said Kelley.  "The business education was most helpful.  It was important to learn more about running the business."

Part of Kelley's promise to this collaboration of organizations is to bring on an additional person into his shop within the year.  Kelley pointed to an empty area and said he was ready with the second location already available.

Currently, he is holding three on-going specials.  Senior citizens and retirees are eligible for a $9 cut, Students receive $2 off a men's cut and a Frequency Special offers a free cut after the purchase of 10 cutting services.

The hours are Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

It takes a large risk for a business owner to open up its doors to the public, however, it is the patrons that are extremely important for making the business successful.  Be sure to check out Kelley's Barbershop.

Go green and shop local!
