Lyons Mayor, Corrine Kleisle and Lyons Supervisor, Brian Manktelow

Submitted by Jerry Ashley, LMSP

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The Village and Town of Lyons, New York have jointly, and officially, proclaimed the month of May “Clean Up, Fix Up and Paint Up Month”. The Proclamation, at the request of the Lyons Main Street Program, encouraged participation from retail and service businesses in a promotion emphasizing pride of ownership and pride of community. Partnering local businesses are building displays and offering reduced prices (or percentages off of regular retail prices) for cleaning, repair and painting supplies and products as well as offered services. Participating businesses include Dobbins Painting and Contracting, Santelli Lumber's Lyons location, Dobbins Drugs, Old Lyons Hardware, The Buck at Old Lyons Hardware and Loson's Big M. In addition to encouraging both residential and business property owners to do a little spring cleaning, the LMSP is challenging other organizations and businesses to organize a clean up, fix up or paint up project to beautify or groom a public space, a neglected building, a cemetery, church, school or historic structure. As an example, there is a need for removal of graffiti from the gazebo at Mildred Taylor Park or assistance in keeping the Volunteer Perennial Beds at the canal waterfront downtown weed free, just to name a few ideas.

In addition to the above, the LMSP will deliver special “Thumbs Up!” certificates to both residential and business property owners that have been nominated by their neighbors as an acknowledgement of  their “pride of ownership”. Know someone that always goes the extra mile keeping their property well maintained? Let them know that you feel they deserve a “Thumbs Up!”.  Has a homeowner spruced up, painted the trim or planted a new landscape? Give ‘em a “Thumbs Up!” Let your neighbor down the street know that his or her hard work has been noticed – make sure they get a “Thumbs Up!” It’s all about community pride. To nominate a Lyons property owner for a “Thumbs Up!”, contact the LMSP at 315.871.4220 or by sending the property owners name and address to lyonsmainstreetpriogram@gmail.com or to 70 William Street, Lyons, NY 14489. Nominations will be accepted from May 1st through May 31st. A complete listing of all "Thumbs Up!" nominees will be posted in early June.
