August 21, 2012 -- Due to the popularity of the traveling exhibit of historic-style quilts selected from the spring Great Lakes Seaway Trail War of 1812 Quilt Show, the call is going out for 1812-style fabric works of art for a reprise event titled Great Lakes Seaway Trail 1812 ½.
The Great Lakes Seaway Trail Discovery Center in Sackets Harbor, NY, will host the show September 29-30, 2012.
Show Manager Lynette Lundy-Beck is asking quilters who enjoyed making a quilt for the spring event; those who wanted to, but didn’t; and those who may have started, but did not finish an entry for the spring show to enter the fall exhibit.
“We are extending the excitement about the historic-style quilts in conjunction with New York State’s Official Day of Commemoration of the War of 1812 with this 1812 ½ exhibit,” Lundy-Beck says.
“The 26 quilts, by American and Canadian quilters, plus four new Great Lakes Seaway Trail educational interpretive panels about the War will be on display with new works by quilters who want to be part of this continuing celebration of our National Scenic Byway’s history and cultural storytelling tradition,” Lundy-Beck adds.
The show’s relaxed entry guidelines include accepting quilt tops using 1812-true patterns, colors and fabrics along with any completed quilts. Entry deadline is September 21.
The show will include vendors and encouragement for entries for the March 2013 Great Lakes Seaway Trail Quilt Show with an international “Beauty of the Byways” theme.
An 1812 theme Great Lakes Seaway Trail walking event, sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association, will take place starting with 8:30am registration at the September 29 at the Great Lakes Seaway Trail Discovery Center.
