What secret treasures lies in the half light of the attic at 21 Butternut Street in Lyons? Members of the Wayne County Historical Society and visitors to the exhibit, “Bringing Down the Attic” are about to find out. The opening of “Bringing Down the Attic” will be March 28 at 7pm.

Space for storage is always an issue for area historical societies and Wayne County Historical Society is no different. The society has been collecting Wayne County artifacts since its inception in 1946. Much of the collection has been catalogued and is on display at the Museum of Wayne County History, some of the collection has been catalogued and is kept off-site and some of the collection has not yet been catalogued in the new searchable museum software and it is kept in the attic.

The WCHS Collection Committee, headed up by Kathi Marshall, are very excited about this exhibit as it will give them a chance to catalogue all of the attic artifacts in the computer system. “It would be great to find some undiscovered treasure!” said Marshall.

The speaker for the exhibit preview party will be John Westerberg who for 42 years, has had a career dealing in antiquarian books. Westerberg, has owned book shops in Pultneyville, Williamson and Rochester among others and is also the owner of the online bookstore the Yankee Peddler. All who attend the preview party for the exhibit are invited to bring one book from home to have Westerberg look over. Westerberg will not be appraising, but will give his innermost judgements on each book.

The event is free and open to the public. The exhibit runs until August 3, 2013. For more information about this event call the Museum of Wayne County History at 315 946 4943 or look on the website, www.waynehistory.org. The Museum is located at 21 Butternut St, in Lyons and there is parking in the rear of the building.
