Steve & Donna Corcoran of Lyons
Lyons community residents pulled together yesterday for a Zumba®/Walkathon to help raise funds for local couple, Steve & Donna Corcoran.  The Corcoran's, lifetime residents of Lyons, are battling lung cancer together.

Many volunteers gathered to assist with various aspects of the event from registering participants to sporting coordinated moves to latin rhythms.  There were several raffles and a 50/50 drawing, that was won by Sylvia Sedore.  Mrs. Sedore donated her winnings to her good friends, the Corcorans.

"This benefit was so meaningful. The care and love for them was so overwhelming.  It was very emotional." said Zumba® Instructor, Tracy Zornow.

The benefit hosted by Refuel Fitness from Newark and Meg-n-Rosie's Restaurant of Lyons is just one of many.  A spaghetti dinner is planned for Wednesday at the Lyons American Legion  from 4-6 p.m. and a larger fundraiser will be held at Studebaker's Restaurant in Lyons on March 16th.  This event has several bands performing along with many raffle baskets and a 50/50 drawing.  Tickets for this event are $20 and can be purchased at Studebaker's Restaurant.

Why so many benefits?

Many of our loved ones endure hardships, however, it is seldom that it is multiplied.  The likelihood of both husband and wife battling the same disease at the same time is very slim.  With the ever rising cost of insurance and medical care, we know that these additional expenses can be hard to keep up with, especially while undergoing treatment. In this situation, make those expenses times two.

Steve Corcoran was diagnosed with lung cancer last fall and underwent surgery in November to have his lymph nodes removed.  He is now following up with chemotherapy treatments once a week.

Donna Corcoran, who fell ill in December, was diagnosed in January with inoperable lung cancer and is receiving chemotherapy treatments once a month.

The funds from these benefits will be used for the surmounting unforeseen expenses.
