Tuesday night's Pioneers game was completed after the minimum four and a half
innings because of rain, but the weather was the only thing stopping the Pioneers (3-3)
as they beat the Newark Pilots (4-2) by a 7-0 score in front of 2,782 fans at Dunn Field.

Sam Sinnen (Old Dominion) started in his Pioneers debut and delivered the most
overpowering outing we have seen from an Elmira pitcher this season. Sinnen struck
out the side in the second and third innings on his way to 5 innings allowing no runs on
just 6 hits, striking out 9 while walking none. Sinnen wasn't perfect, allowing a hit in
every inning, but whenever the Pilots got runners aboard, he bore down and blew them
away. Thanks to the rain ending the game early, Sinnen gets credit for the complete
game shutout to cap off what was an incredible performance.

The Pioneers offense was just as formidable. After getting off to an early lead in the
bottom of the first inning, the Elmira lineup batted around on its way to five more runs in
the second frame. Included in the inning were RBI singles by Derek Deler (Florida
International) and Nick Walker (Old Dominion) plus a two-run base hit by Zac Bellinger
(St. Rose). Bellinger entered the game just 2 for 13, but had an incredible night, going 3
for 3 with two singles, a double, and 2 RBI.

The Pioneers' contest against the Pilots marked arguably their most dominant game of
the season, and they will hope for similar results in their home games against the
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs on Thursday and the Syracuse Salt Cats on Friday,
both at 7:05 PM. Fans, head to the Dunn Field Front office or call 607-734-2690 to take
advantage of the great seats still available.
