For the past five years, Wayne County Business Builders (WCBB) has been honing their efforts to help foster the growth of small businesses in the Wayne County area. As an affiliate of SCORE, they uphold the mission of equipping small business owners with the tools they need to drive success by providing free mentoring services and low cost educational workshops.

On July  15, the Wayne County Board of Supervisors presented a proclamation to WCBB in recognition of their fifth year anniversary. The Proclamation acknowledged the thousands of dollars donated in volunteer time and services provided by WCBB since they formed in 2009.

To date, WCBB has counseled approximately 300 clients, some currently in business and some in the process of starting one. Counselors have helped many business owners with planning, marketing, inventory management, process development and other strategies relevant to a growing business. 

"Using the tools we learned from WCBB, we are keeping better track of our costs of production, and getting more accurate estimates of our profit margins. We've also developed business and marketing plans" comments Luke DeFisher, Operations Assistant with Apple Country Spirits in Williamson NY. "There are many aspects of running a business that a first-time entrepreneur may not have considered. The people of the WCBB are real professionals from business background, and they understand firsthand the challenges that many business owners face. It's so helpful to be able to talk about your ideas with someone, and get constructive feedback." 

WCBB offers a series of low cost workshops that are aimed to address small business needs. Workshops have included topics that are applicable to starting a business such writing a business plan, marketing, legal issues and accounting. This fall, WCBB will be offering workshops with an emphasis on marketing topics such as Internet Marketing, Creating an Effective Website and Social Media Marketing.
