In spite of less than ideal weather, there was a good turnout for the dedication of Ken and David Harder Park last Thursday. The park is located at the west end of West Shore Blvd., adjacent to the Erie Canal trail.
Arcadia Supervisor Dick Colacino spearheaded the effort to name the canal trail park in honor of the Harder family. The late Ken Harder and his son David were Arcadia highway Superintendents for 40 plus years and were very popular with the voters, seldom being opposed for the position and always garnering the most votes on the ticket.
Dave Harder is retired, living in South Carolina and was unable to be present. He was represented by his sister Brenda Westcott, a member of the Arcadia Town Board, and his mother Phyllis, who lives in Newark.

Interestingly, the extension of West Shore Blvd. was the idea of Dave Harder to suggested it to then Newark Village trustee Fran Mason while in his barber chair. Mason took the idea to the board and the rest is history.
