Watch the gigantic fireworks show called Thunder Over the Erie that Lyons, New York puts on every year during its Peppermint Days festival. You won't be disappointed.
The combination of an awesome fireworks display and the desirable viewing location along the historic Erie Canal creates an experience that'll keep you coming back year after year. Some come by boat while many park their cars where space might be found (parking spaces fill up fast!) and then walk in to the banks of the Erie Canal toting camp chairs, snacks, and cameras. Lyons residents living within the village undoubtedly leave the autos parked in their driveways and are probably home at the end of the night before visitors can even locate their parked car!
The parking situation, though, is well worth the additional time it takes. Head in to Lyons early and stroll the streets of the Peppermint Village, admire the gorgeous Ohmann Theatre, and settle in on the north bank of the Erie Canal, the Southside Canal Park, or even on the standing-room only Geneva Street bridge.
After the show, log on to your computer and share your fireworks photos and video on YouTube, Facebook, or wherever else you post your media AND post a comment here on Wayne County Life so that we can all enjoy Thunder Over the Erie to the fullest!
