SUBMITTED by Theresa Streb, Lyons Public Library (4-Oct-2010)

For the first time ever, the Lyons Public Library will be holding a Gingerbread House Contest and Fundraiser. Anyone is welcome to enter, from young children to adults. Entries must be in by noon (12 p.m.) on Mon., Nov. 29 and must be accompanied by a description that includes the decorator’s name and age. A kit purchased from a store can be used but the construction and decoration of the building must be done by the person entering the contest.

The houses will be on display in the library near the circulation desk from Mon., Nov. 29, 2010 until Sat., Dec. 4 at noon. Each entry will be numbered and have a container in front of it for people to drop tickets in, which will decide the top two favorites in the two age categories, under 18 years and 18 years and older. Tickets will be 5 for $1. The top two favorites in each age category will receive a certificate and a prize. A silent auction sheet will also be placed with each entry with a starting bid of $5. To raise a bid, you must go up by at least a $1. Bidding will end at noon on Sat., Dec. 4. The winning bidders may pick up their items from noon to 1 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 4 or the following week during regular library hours.

Winners in the age categories and the amount of money raised will be announced in the local papers, the Friends newsletter and the Library’s blog and Facebook account.

Please call the Lyons Public Library at (315) 946-9262 or by email at lyonslibrary@owwl.org if you have questions. Registration is not required and there is no fee to enter.
