NEWARK (OCT 11 10) -- The Lady Reds’ tennis team prepared for this week’s sectionals competition by elbowing past Midlakes over the weekend, 3-2, for it's seventh win of the season.
Senior co-captains played the major role: Allison Wilck beat Midlakes’ Hannah Gage in First Singles (6-4, 6-0), and Katelyn Zonneville got past Megan Fancett (6-4, 6-4). Kelsey Rossignol, known as "Bullet" for her serves, and partner Kelly Eberle won their doubles match (6-3, 4-6, 6-0) to seal the team victory and be selected as "Players of the Week” by coach jack Fisher.
Newark is seeded third in the Team Sectional Competition that starts Tuesday, Oct 12, at 4 p.m. on the Newark courts.
“We’ve won all but one home match this season and hopefully we will continue that into Sectionals,” said Fisher. A good omen: it’s senior recognition night.
