WAYNE COUNTY (Jan 5 11) – University of Buffalo freshman forward Javon McCrea (Newark) got a taste of the collegiate big time last Thursday when 16th-ranked Brigham Young came to town.    Virginia Tech won its Hokie Holiday Classic last weekend, defeating Alcorn State in the first round Wednesday, 87-44, then getting past Vanderbilt in the championship game Thursday, 74-68. That win over Vandy was the first over a Southeast Conference opponent in six years.
Sophomore starting guard Alyssa Fenyn (Newark) scored seven points against Alcorn, took in two rebounds, and made one assist. She played a bigger role in the Vandy win, capping a couple of second-half fast breaks for the basket that put Tech ahead to stay. Alyssa ended up with 14 points, three rebounds and three steals.
