Grandslam Youth Derby Awards Ceremony

The Wayne County GrandSlam & Merchants Challenge Youth Derby held its 14th Annual Awards Ceremony at the Sodus Point Firehall, Saturday, August 27th and the celebration not only marked the longevity of the event…but the fact that a record 100 youngsters signed-up for the 2011 contest. Kids and parents filled the fire hall for fun, food, raffles and special entertainment by Walt Crum of Balloon Art. Walt thrilled the youngsters with his balloon creations.

The unique derby, promoted by the Wayne County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs and the Wayne County Office of Tourism, begins the second week in May, and continues until mid August.

28th Annual Macedon Center Lumberjack Festival

The ever-popular 28th annual Macedon Center Community Lumberjack Festival will be held Sept 10th-11th this year at Macedon Center Fireman’s Field. This unique regional event is two solid days of lumberjack competitions, expanded activities for kids, and a market area of crafts, collectibles, and commercial items. Gates open both days at 8 am. Amateur competition begins Saturday at 9 am, including log rolling, two-man crosscut, buck saw, chain saw, log chop, and tree falling. Equipment and safety gear will be provided.

The exciting grease-pole climb will take place at 4 pm Saturday, so gather up 4 people and get a team together! The pole is covered in Crisco so make sure you wear clothes you can throw away. New kids’ activities this year include a rock-climbing wall, and bird-house building with Lowes on Saturday from 10 am-1 pm.

Sept 4 – Journaling for Success: On Sunday, September 4 at 1:30 PM. Journaling for Success at Books, ETC. This group focuses on positive attitude building and positive action habits. Participants only need to bring a journal, your choice, and your favorite writing utensil. There will be writing prompts from several sources.
