The Newark Pilots (4-1) extend their winning streak to three by defeating the Elmira Pioneers (0-5) by the score of 15-5 at Colburn Park on Monday Night.

Andrew Tidwell (Saginaw Valley State) earned the win for the Pilots, extending his record to 2-0. In his six innings of work, Tidwell gave up one run on just three hits. He struck out three while walking one.

In the bottom of the second, Newark extended their lead over Elmira with a five-run effort. With men on first and third and no outs, Adam Grace (Erie Community College) singled through the left side of the infield allowing Tariq Staton (Southern Utah) to score. Josh Perez (Mississippi College) followed with a booming double to left-center allowing Grace and Ben Bostick (St. John Fisher) to score. With back-to-back RBI singles by Joe Landi (University of Rhode Island) and Brent Langston (Delta State), Newark took a 6-0 lead over Elmira.

The Pilots extended their commanding lead in bottom of the third by scoring three more runs. With men on first and second and two outs, Perez reached first resulting from a throwing error by the shortstop, allowing Grace to score. Josh Crowdus (Delta State) and Perez scored soon after due to wild throw by the second baseman.

The Pioneers trimmed their deficit to six after scoring one run in the top of the sixth and three runs in the top of the seventh. With one out in the sixth, Steven Patterson (San Joaquin Delta) scored on a Sac-Fly by Tyler McIntyre (Central Connecticut State). In the following inning with men on second and third, Stephen Sunday (Sullivan County Community College) drove in two on a double, allowing James Pjura (Pace) and Graeme Zaparzynski (Slippery Rock University) to
score. Sunday eventually scored Elmira’s fourth run by balk. After six and one-half innings, the Pioneers trailed 10-4.

The Pilots had another five run inning in the bottom of the seventh. On a Crowdus single up the middle, Cash Barker (Texas A&M Kingsville) scored. Perez soon followed with a RBI single, allowing Crowdus to score. With two men on base, Brent Langston (Delta State) doubled home Landi and Perez. In the next at-bat, Langston scored on a throwing error committed by the shortstop.

In the top of the eighth, McIntyre blasted a solo homerun over the right field wall to cut the deficit to 10, making the score 15-5.

Allen got the start on the mound for the Pioneers in a losing effort. He only lasted two innings, giving up six runs, five earned, on seven hits while striking out two and walking one. McIntyre and Sunday each went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and one run scored.

Langston led the Pilots with four hits and three RBIs. Perez had two hits, three RBI, and three runs.

The Pilots will host Watertown at Colburn Park at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. Elmira will be home against Albany at Dunn Field at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
