UTICA, NY – Using a collective effort to get the win on Wednesday (6/24) at Donovan Stadium, the Utica Brewers took care of Newark in nine innings, defeating the Pilots 6-3.

Utica (9-11) took the momentum of the game in the second after Mason McClellan Charleston University) led off with a triple. The freshman eventually scored on a wild pitch to give the Brewers a 1-0 lead, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI.

Scoring the second run was Taylor Olmstead (University of Connecticut). He got a free pass when Newark starter Jacob Wlozcewski hit him after McClellan’s triple. Two batters later, Ismael Herrera (Norfolk State) grounded in the Brewers second run, accumulating his second run batted in of the season in the process.

The Brewers ballooned that lead to 5-2 then 6-2 in the sixth and eighth when Aaron Smith (Wake Forest) and McClellan drove in runs. Smith got his on an error and McClellan got his via a double, scoring Olmstead and Dominick Bregar (Colorado State University).

With the Brewers offense accumulating nine hits, starter Collin Gee got the win. The junior allowed two runs on six hits in six innings of work. Coming in for the save was Peter Beattie (UC Riverside). He pitched three innings and allowed one earned run on three hits.

Up next for the Brewers is Elmira on Friday (6/26). The Brewers will host the Pioneers in their fifth consecutive home game. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
